DC My Way – Suicide Squad

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

What I know: A bunch of criminals that Waller got together to fight crime in dirty ways. And I think they’re chipped to explode if they do bad things and defect.

Harley, what are you doing? You can't hide weapons in that...

Harley, what are you doing? You can't hide weapons in that...

Harley didn’t know who this new girl was, but she was not happy. Mister J had found another number one, one that looked a bit too much like her if she’d gotten a lot of plastic surgery and decided to just be a floozy. She’d just escaped jail and found this new girl there, working with the Jokers and doing all the things she used to do. She was not happy and promptly decided to go after her to prove her love to Mister J.

This turned out to be a less good idea. It was a coup. The Mister J was a fake and the Jokers were as well. This Harley was actually a shape shifter who had been a part of the Suicide Squad sent to arrest her again and take her in, where Waller immediately recruited her to the Squad so she could be back with Mister J sooner. She might even get to visit, even when he was in Arkham, and maybe she could use her freedom to break him out the next time he ended up in there.

Still, it seemed that the Squad was quite in need of her special breed of insanity. No one was any good at providing a distraction that could defend themselves properly afterwards, which was a bit of a specialty of Harley’s. That, and being very recognizable and having a good measure intimidation given her association with the Joker. She could get into places and take down people more easily than the other no name villains she was paired with and, so long as she wasn’t let near anything the Joker was a part of, she was a good asset to have.

The rest of the team had their own assets as well and, over time, they grew closer. They became a team, though they were all just working for their freedom and their plans for when their tenure on the team was over was what they bonded over more than the idea that doing good might convert them to the good side. Didn’t help that they were doing villainous work in the name of good, either.

Not to mention Waller, now that she’d assembled a team, was reluctant to let any of them go again.

And that’s all for the series. Hope you enjoyed at least one of them and, now that the new series is coming out, let’s see what they actually end up doing!

DC My Way – Teen Titans

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

What I know: They’re a bunch of the sidekicks and young heroes teaming together to fight the lesser evils.

Huh. Most of them are color coordinated. What.

Huh. Most of them are color coordinated. What.

Superboy and Robin were fast friends. They met initially after Batman and Superman teamed up and had to save their mentors, finding that they worked together really well. And so, they started working together now and then, finding that the two of them were a bit of a magnet for other young heroes working under older, more established heroes. It was a shame that they met so sporadically, since they all were on fairly good terms with one another after their bouts, but always just ended up going home afterwards to their mentors or their civilian lives.

And then it happened. Something came up that their mentors just didn’t seem to be able to see. Robin was the first to grow frustrated with his mentor and found that Superboy was having the same trouble. Kid Flash found them soon after, as did Wonder Girl, all of them trying to figure out why their mentors didn’t even seem to see the threat that was appearing on the news. No one over 25, actually, seemed to be able to tell there was anything at all.

They managed to take the threat down together, joined in the end by Blue Beetle and Static, when Nightwing dropped by to congratulate them. He suggested maybe they should start up the Titans again and gave them the location of the old base and they way to activate it again. With a place to meet, that seemed to settle it. They had a bit of a rotating roster, but the Teen Titans were formed.

DC My Way – Justice League Dark

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

What I know: Um… I dunno.

Is that John Constantine? And Zatanna? Well, I know what I'm doing now.

Is that John Constantine? And Zatanna? Well, I know what I'm doing now.

The world was once imbued with magic. Over time, the magic had faded away, the world of science stepping in to take its place and those who still practiced magic becoming rarer and rarer. Magic started existing solely in old families, traits passed down through generations instead of being gifted randomly by rampant gods. Indeed, the gods seemed to be quieter and quieter as time went on and the magic was starting to leave all together.

Still, there were several magic users out there. Those that wanted to good in the world kept in close contact, among them Deadman and Zatanna and the other ones on the cover less one of them. And every one of them were starting to encounter the same problem. The problem? John Constantine. The man was starting to turn up in all their lives, interrupting them for favors that they, by all means, did owe him for past actions, but with so many all at once, they were beginning to suspect that something was happening.

The Justice League would hear none of it when Zatanna brought it up with them. They were not concerned with the world of magic and weren’t entirely convinced that this Constantine was so important as she claimed. So, the magic folk banded together under the banner of the Justice League (Zatanna a little miffed with their lack of caring about the magical community and wanting to do a bit of a take that to them) instead with one singular goal: To find John and figure out whether he was doing something that would nearly destroy the world again and, if he was, stop him.

What they found instead was John waiting for them. He knew they’d come after him eventually and he wanted them to have a team name to do things under, which he was rubbish at coming up with, or so he claimed. He said his goal was to bring magic back to the world and he was working on a way to do that. John Constantine eventually let slip something that sparked something in Zatanna’s memory, something she could feel had been burried away and hidden from even her. There was a boy out there. A boy who could open the world of magic back up.

With only patches of their memories present and most of it faded, the first aim was to find anything they could on the child, as well as repairing both Constantine and Zatanna’s memories of him. They remembered from this two names. Molly was first, though it was a girl’s name it seemed important. The next was the important one. Tim Hunter. This was the boy they needed to find, and they would need the entire group to hunt him down.

DC My Way – I, Vampire

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

What I know: It’s about a vampire? And the title is probably ripping off I, Zombie.

Woman, are you not COLD?! PAINT IS NOT CLOTHING. Sigh, she must be a minion. He is clearly grabbing her ass, after all.

Woman, are you not COLD?! PAINT IS NOT CLOTHING. Sigh, she must be a minion. He is clearly grabbing her ass, after all.

Damon had been on his own for centuries. He was a vampire, after all, and he left to feed. It was a dull, solitary life and he was getting bored after the centuries. He used to have a harem of women, vampire girls he’d turned, but they had all left him, stupidly running after human men who took them all down. It served them right, as far as he was concerned, but he was growing bored again. There was also a weird sensation spreading across the country where the young women seemed to be desperate to wed a vampire. It was like the country wanted to be his minions now and he was not about to say no to some pretty female companionship.

And so, he found his first girl. Young, slutty and a little kinky, she was the one who came on to him because he “seemed like a vampire and [she was] totally into that” when he bit her and made her like himself. She was fun to watch adjust, the girl starting with her boyfriend of the time and her friends, murdering every last one of them with her bare hands.

Best of all, she wanted him in the end. He’d helped fulfill her elaborate fantasy of being a vampire mistress and was willing to do anything for him in repayment so long as she could continue this life, and he was happy to do with her whatever caught his fancy at the time. The blood lust had overtaken her and having her around was bringing up old plans. He’d once thought of becoming the master of the night, leading an army of vampires and the undead so that he could take the night without worry of being discrete or being tracked down eventually and killed during the day.

And with his little vixen killing humans left and right every night, and Damon being quite comfortable where he was, it might be time to consider the idea again. He was not going to leave for his food again if he had to convert every one of them himself.

DC My Way – Captain Atom

What I know: He shrinks really small.

Although he could just be Manhattan's brother...

Although he could just be Manhattan's brother...

It was a lab accident that Nathan was thought to have died in. He’d been caught right in the middle of it all when the whole lab went up, taking the lives of several people, but that wasn’t quite the case. The area around the lab was slowly being cleaned up, but eventually abansoned because little oddities and small explosions kept happening around the area.

As it turns out, no one had initially died in the explosions. They had only shrunk down very small and were trying to survive on an atomic level for months. In the end, only Nathan grew back to normal size, luckily avoiding pushing the wrong atom into another wrong atom or breaking something on the subatomic level. How he’d survived without food or water, he did not know, but he found he didn’t actually need it any longer. Not really. Something else seemed to be feeding him now.

After explaining what happened after they found him, full sized, dazed and nude in the debris, he was eventually released back to his family, a wife and two children who both thought he was dead. All was still odd, though, as he found himself sporadically shrinking and growing again as he needed.

He did his best to deal with it, but he was not left alone for long to handle it. Upon hearing about it and coincidentally needing someone who could shrink to a subatomic level, Wally West tracked Nathan down and convinced him to help with a villain, offering to suit him up with a costume so that no one could track down his family. Once he did help, though, and rescuing a boy so much like his own in the process made him decide to keep the costume and the name Flash had so jokingly given him.

DC My Way – Demon Knights

What I know: Sounds like they’re bad guys. And magic.

... I do not know his name. At all.

... I do not know his name. At all.

He was in a very odd position. Morgana was gone. He was no longer a pawn to her whims, no longer at the beck and call of that brat Mordred, a free creature of magic that was left on the mortal plane to do as he would please. He did not even know what he would please, being trapped in servitude for so long. There were a great many things he wished to see, places to go, and the heros of this world gave him their blessing in doing so. But first, he called from the depths of the hell he had been trapped in his brethren, other creatures like him who had escaped servitude for imprisonment. They were not easily brought out. Indeed, he rescued none and realized then what he must do.

And from there, their dark travels began. Their first aim, of course, was to seal away Morgana and Mordred. This was easily enough accomplished. After that however, came the hunt for the relics. Ancient trinkets and baubles to many, he knew them for their great magics and wanted them to increase his power. Once by one he released his brethren and relic by relic, they drained them of their magic.

Not that they went unopposed. There were people who would seek to stop him. He appealed to the heroes as a troubled creature seeking companionships in his imprisoned fellows and comfort in the trinkets he sought, but his goal was becoming clearer. He wanted power. He wanted to do what that fool Morgana had not. He wanted this world’s magic, all of it, for himself, and he would kill the brethren he worked so hard to raise to do it.

In fact, it was what he would eventually have to do. And he would do it, no matter how fond of them he had become.

DC My Way – Swamp Thing

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

What I know: He’s an earth spirit or something. Comes from the swamp and has a daughter.

Not quite as awesome a name as "Man Thing" admittedly.

Not quite as awesome a name as "Man Thing" admittedly.

The creature that dwelled in the swamp had no desire to do anything with the humans, really. It was perfectly content to exist in the swamp, alone and unbothered by the rest of the world. There were the occasional humans that sought to find him. He knew the rumours they told, hearing the whispers back from the trees at the edge of the swamp gossiping all the way to where he usually treaded, but he was gentle in guiding the humans through a maze in the swamp until they eventually gave up and went back. He did not harm them and, though they were a bit annoying, the humans did little to him but litter, and he was quick to make sure they knew what it felt like to have dirt scattered across their backs when they went.

It wasn’t until the developers started infringing on his swamps that he finally began to act. The humans were trying to tear down his land to pave over it, as they had already done to so much of the earth, and he would have none of it. While he recognized that not all humans were like this, indeed several humans were barricading themselves against the machines to keep them from entering his home, he knew the ones behind it were not to be trusted. Still, he did not know what to do besides react for the moment and managed to rid himself of the business, though exposed himself as a real creature to the world at the same time.

After a time of more people trying to track him down in his swamp, he was finally found by a man named Constantine, who recognized him for what he was. He was not this mutated man that the papers made him out to be, but a true elemental, and one that was attracting too much attention, advising him that he should probably find another swamp. With his help, Swamp Thing found another swamp to hide in, though found that it too had it’s own problems, with a mystic living in the depths of it amidst several other strange and dangerous creatures. John advised he should probably clean up a bit before he called it home, then left..

And so Swamp Thing began on a pattern of cleaning up and protecting the new swamp, then finding himself a little too exposed and moving on. Soon there were stories of him appearing all over until no one really believed in the creature anymore despite the evidence. He could settle down, but he’d discovered there was still much left for him to do.

DC My Way – Mister Terrific

Friday, August 26th, 2011

What I know: Apparently he’s terrific. And has branded bombs.

I guess the meaningless circuitry in the background means he's a tech guy. That, or he shrinks.

I guess the meaningless circuitry in the background means he's a tech guy. That, or he shrinks.

Terry had always been a bit full of himself. He coasted by as a jock, being on sports teams for years all the way until he got his degree in general arts. When he graduated, though, there was no team looking to sign him and he was stuck with no prospects and a degree that he’d only got on scholarships that did not pay off. But Terry wasn’t going to take this lying down. There had to be a career option for him that didn’t involve going back to school, but nothing that his family could offer. He was the black sheep, after all, the rest of them getting high paying jobs that required years of schooling.

He did, however, have his younger brother. His brother would do anything for him up to and including finding a way to get him a job in his lab and, even if it meant doing experiments, Terry was going to take it. Besides, what harm could it do? His brother was going to try and get him into the placebo group for the pills that were supposed to do something to his brain and all he’d have to do was take them and say he felt normal. Easy.

He wasn’t normal, however. He started doing strange things, tinkering with little machines around the house for hours on end and wondering what was happening. He also couldn’t get a hold of his brother since the start of the experiment and he wasn’t sure what was happening to him. They only continued to make notes and wouldn’t answer any of his inquiries.

After a while, Terry finished the drugs and found that he was going to be put under closer observation. He was going to resist until he heard that he might be able to see his brother in doing so, and agreed ultimately. What he found there instead was that his brother was used in the production of the drugs and his mad tinkering binges had been his brother subconsciously getting out, though even his brother hadn’t realized what was happening at the time. As the experiments progressed, he realized that his brother was quite dead, in the traditional sense, and now was sitting in his mind in some capacity, brilliant as he was.

As he learned to cope with his brother, what was left of him, in his brain and slowly melting into being a part of his own mind, he managed to tinker with the available technology at his disposal to break out of the facility, only to discover something about his brother he didn’t realize. He wanted to be a super hero. And now, so did Terry.

Using a combination of what his brother knew about technology and his ability to bench press weights, he became Mr. Terrific, a clearly brilliant hero who was still a bit full of himself, though now he was smart enough to invent things on top of being good at sports and saving people.

DC My Way – Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

What I know: From the Mary Shelley novel, I assume. I guess he fights the magical evils.

Well, I guess if you were going to rip off something, Hellboy is a good one.

Well, I guess if you were going to rip off something, Hellboy is a good one.

Normally a monster with all the subtlety of a brick to the face would not be the one you’d send off on delicate missions, but Frankenstein was proving himself a worthy asset recently. While his original brain was long gone, having fallen to decay and rot while his body remained pristine, he did not miss it. It was imperfect and made hastily, much like the rest of his body. His new brain was a lot more sturdy and didn’t have the memories of someone else floating in broken bits and pieces.

But what was a monster made of science that could not be to do now? The answer came to him in the form of a small, masked Japanese girl who came to fetch him out of hiding. There was an organization called SHADE that wanted his services. They required a monster of his caliber for a particular case and Frankenstein, having long since grown rather bored of his immortality spent in hiding, decided to try it out. The worst that could happen would just be more pitch forks and he was already used to that.

SHADE, as he soon learned, was a small organization that collected the strangest people. They were all odd byproducts of science, magic or both, some summoned and trapped on this plane while others were just creatures that formed after nuclear explosions instead of humans with super powers. What this organization did was find these things, stopped more creatures like them from coming into existence and help find a place for the creatures that they could not prevent the existence of.

And now, Frankenstein was an agent, sent out to investigate. They weren’t much of discretion, but in this world, Frankenstein is hardly the strangest creature most people have ever seen.

DC My Way – Green Arrow

What I know: He’s Robin Hood in modern times. Also, he’s a rich alcoholic.

I foresee me ripping off Year One a lot here...

I foresee me ripping off Year One a lot here...

Oliver Queen enjoyed the drink a lot. It was a great relaxer for the pressures of being a rich heir to recently dead parents and remaining only the figurehead of his father’s company after some legal dealings that had gone quite over his head. He didn’t really know how that had happened, but it left him with a lot of money, still coming as he got a substantial pay check monthly from the company for doing nothing, and he was left to his own devices. These devices, as a young man with a lot of money, was a lot of partying and generally doing whatever the hell he wanted.

And so it was, on a whim, that he bought a bow at an auction after embarrassing himself at it. To get away from it all, he went out to sea with it and a trusted friend that did whatever work he was meant to do at the company. His friend double-crossed him and left him in the ocean to drown, though Oliver did not die. Instead, he managed to survive on his own on a deserted island on his own, using a makeshift bow as his sole means of survival and getting home while taking down an opium farm while he was at it.

Once back home, renewed with confidence, he took back control of the company and fired his friend for what he was doing with the company’s money. In the end, though, after cleaning up the company, he left it back in the hands of those he trusted, sitting in on meetings and staying on top of matters, but remaining a figurehead after that point given that he now had other matters to deal with.

Those other matters were becoming Robin Hood of his city. After his experiences on the island, he’d developed a bit of a complex for getting rid of the corruption of the world himself and he wanted to take an active stance against it personally.
