Comic Run 01-21-10

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Apparently Joe the Barbarian came out this week, but I missed it. Next week, then. Onto the stuff I did get!

Deadlocke #1
I hate to say it, but I’m just not into it. Normally the writer/comic artist who sometimes goes into character mode would do it for me, but something about the story felt really forced and like they cut things to be mysterious rather than because it would make for a good story.

Incorruptible #2
And that’s it for me. I am bored. Max moves through the motions and we have informed conflict. A big superhero, who has appeared in one panel, has apparently gone insane and now he’s going completely straight to take the guy down. All of which really makes no sense. Villains fight heroes. If a hero goes nuts, villains don’t spontaneously go straight. GAH NO MORE.

Victorian Undead #1
What. It’s Sherlock Holmes. And he dissects a robot and then goes to check out zombies. I am not really sure what I think about this.

Onto the comic minute then:

Daytripper #2
I am thoroughly confused and intrigued at the same time. I started reading it and thought he was the same guy from the first issue having a flashback into some part of his life and a trip he took with his friend. Then he died at the end and I thought maybe it was someone who looked like him. And then I realized it was about the time he died when he was 21 as opposed to when he died at 32. And now, I don’t know what’s going on.

Echo #18
I don’t know why, but it feels like ages since the alst issue. And it’s still just as fun, but now with the pace picking up, I’m hoping we get more than one or two events an issue.

Uwritten #9
The great and magical jailbreak. I loved it. I really did. All of the pieces are falling into place, though the Harry Potter parallels are getting a little strong now that we have both a know-it-all brunette and a redhead with a smart mouth and comic relief value. Now I need to decide whether I want to continue this in issues or trades, but I think trades for this one might be best. I want to reread the story and my issues don’t hold up well on transit.

Weekly World News #1
Ed Anger is amazing. He’s the crazy folk you see yelling at everything he doesn’t like for being un-American and angry because now aliens, intelligent apes and Bat Boy (Who doesn’t seem to be able to close his mouth for some reason) are even in the country. Although once again, my favourite is the alien. All level headed and a lovely foil, he’s fun.

And the minute for the week:

Spoileriffic! Sandman: Dream Hunters

Media specificity be damned, apparently. By the way, it’s about the adaptation by P Craig Russel, not the original by Neil Gaiman.

Have fun.

Happy New Years!

Friday, January 1st, 2010

It’s a new year and, since I’ve already talked about last year,  it’s time to talk about the plans for the next year. No resolutions this time around, just plans of various sorts. I did all right last time, but meh. Onward!

Put out a Syndicate book
It’s planned, half written, and one’s even being properly edited now. PaperBox Books is interested, so I’m hoping they’ll like all the stories. I still need to write 3 stories for the book I’m working on and then edit everything, but it’s super exciting. Must work super hard!

Get out something for Final Snow (And rename)
VIcki and I are both so busy, but I’d like to have the first episode done by the end of the year. Or, you know, at least the trailer. Have some stuff we can sit on and put out something. Still, I have to find voice actors and hopefully track down someone to do sound and make the soundtrack. Also, I need to rename and I need to do more edits and writing and cutting the script into episodes. Should be interesting.

Finish Sybil of Destiny (And rename)
It’s had an edit done. It really needs another one, though, and once that’s done, I’m keeping it around so that I can possibly get it published. Its not in Wipe continuity, so maybe it has a shot. Well, not strictly in Wipe continuity, anyway.

Start on Dreamscape
I wrote Dreamscape a while ago and now I’m thinking it’s about time to get around to finally rewriting it. It really does need a total rewrite. I think I know how I’m going to rework the story now, so it’s about time to take it, a chapter at a time, and start fixing it into something I can actually edit.

Keep up the videos
The videos are really fun. I want to keep them up, maybe even do a full year’s worth of them. Maybe even do longer ones more often. Heck, maybe even get a real camera (Just using a Canon Powershot from a couple years ago) and do something with actual production value. Heh, no, real production values are not happening.

I’m sure there’s more. There’s other things I want to do, but not that I’ve necessarily planned on. Plot out Twilight (Not the crappy sparkling vampire series) and Atlantis Project, for instance. And there’s a webcomic I’ve been asked to write. With any luck, it will be a productive and creative year. Should be fun.

Those are my plans. What’re the rest of you doing for the year?

A Comic Minute: Supergod #1

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

And this is it. No more updates until the new year and not until next week in the new year. It’s been a fun year and I’m going out to celebrate and be not geeky tonight. Geekiness shall resume when I finally wake up in the morning, though possibly not here.

Happy new year everyone!

A Comic Minute: Stumptown #1

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Third day of daily updating until the new year due to no comics week.

I don’t think I’m going to make this an annual thing.

A Comic Minute: Marvelous Land of Oz #1

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Second day of daily updating until the new year due to no comics week.

A Comic Minute: Underground #1

Monday, December 28th, 2009

As those of you who frequent comic shops weekly may know or will find out when you go in this week, Diamond isn’t shipping comics this week. While there is going to be a new Blackest Night and local indie comic artists are being encouraged to put books out this week, there is no regular shipment.

As such, given that I took November off anyway, I’m doing daily comic minutes until Thursday! Why not Friday? Because I plan on sleeping.

And now, to anything else.

Spoileriffic! The Last Christmas

Monday, December 14th, 2009

So, it’s Christmas time. And as such, I did a Christmas special. Have fun!

Chew #5
What the… I love this book so much. It’s got a weird novel in story thing going with a few of the issues, and I sort of knew that Savoy was probably some sort of evil when I first encountered him (In my head he has a British accent) but the way it unfolds is just wonderful. Tony’s getting more powerful and his brother, I hope, is going to play a larger part in the story now that he’s no longer getting beaten up. Also, there better damn well be a book 2.

Sugar Shock

This book is made of nonsequitors and ADD. I’m going to have to go back and read it again later to find out if any of this actually made any kind of sense.

Under Ground #2
Another fun issue! He didn’t die, which is good because Sweet Tooth had enough of that, and instead we get a chase through the caves. Actually, that’s pretty much all the issue is. A chase scene.
